Report for 2022

The result of the research work on the topic: "Development of molecular cytogenetic research program and the creation of a biobank of tumors of the central nervous system" was formed and sent to the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on November 9, 2022.

According to the goals and objectives of the study, the following results were obtained:

A literature review has been carried out. A methodological recommendation, "Biobank in Neurooncology," was developed and published for neurosurgeons, oncologists, laboratory doctors, and pathologists in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The contracts for necessary goods, work, and services for scientific research have been signed.

A selection of patients with tumors of the central nervous system who are potentially suitable for taking biological tissue samples is being made. Experimental tasks were tested in the E-Prime 2 program on a Lenovo workstation with a monitor and compatibility with NordicNeuroLab, fMRI. The task stimuli were synchronized with the fMRI signal BOLD. Researchers were trained to work on the EEG of ANT Neuro synchronized with E-Prime 2. Complete testing of the design of the experiment, criteria for inclusion and exclusion in the experiment was carried out. Deployment, testing, and debugging of the AFNI system for the analysis of functional MRI (BOLD signal) based on the system of the University of Cambridge, MRC Brain and Cognition.

The portal database structure is fully implemented on the MongoDB non-relational database platform project backend (API) that has been developed. The development of the front-end (UI) of the project has begun. The interface for registering such fields has been implemented. Implementation of the main module "Patient Cards" has begun. The server part is configured, Unix configuration, Docker system setup, server security enhancement) before deploying the project in the production environment.

Patients' tumor tissue and venous blood samples are collected for the biobank; pathomorphological, immunohistochemical, and molecular genetic studies of glial tumors are performed, with the goal of determining prognostic markers.

An electronic research database and a digital archive have been created. Work is underway to create a single digital archive.

A questionnaire was prepared to determine geographic, climatic, and genetic factors, and to determine the level of stress affecting the risk of developing a brain tumor in patients. The archive of the results of histological studies at the Department of Pathological Anatomy, the Hospital Information System (GIS), and the legislative framework of the Republic of Kazakhstan were studied to determine the tactics of data collection. Questionnaires were collected from 80 patients with brain tumors and 71 participants who were included in the control group.

The diagnostics of pathologies of the nervous system are being improved; a modern pathomorphological laboratory with a biobank is being created; clinical data are being digitized; statistical processing of the obtained data has been carried out; analysis has been carried out; and preliminary results have been reported at international conferences.

An article was published in a journal included in the 1st quartile in the Web of Science database: Babi A, Menlibayeva R, Bex T, Doskaliyev A, Akshulakov S. and Shevtsov M. Targeting Heat Shock Proteins in Malignant Brain Tumors: From Basic Research to Clinical Trials. Cancers 2022, 14, 5435.

An article was published in a journal with a 72 percentile by CiteScore in the Scopus database:  Bukkieva T, Pospelova M, Efimtsev A, Fionik O, Alekseeva T, Samochernykh K, Gorbunova E, Krasnikova V, Makhanova A, Nikolaeva A, Tonyan S, Lepekhina A, Levchuk A, Trufanov G, Akshulakov S, Shevtsov M. Microstructural Properties of Brain White Matter Tracts in Breast Cancer Survivors: A Diffusion Tensor Imaging Study. Pathophysiology. 2022 Oct 17;29(4):595-609.

Two articles were published in the journal recommended by  CCSES MP RK: Zhetpisbaev B.B., Abildinova G.Zh. Pathological, immunohistochemical and molecular genetic characterization of gliomas (literature review). Medicine - 2022. - No. 2 (230); Zhetpisbaev B.B., Muratov R.M., Ryskeldiev N.A., Abeldinova G.Zh. Modern possibilities of pathomorphological diagnostics of gliomas in the National Center of Neurosurgery in Astana. Original article. Medicine - 2022. - No. 2 (230).

On the basis of JSC NCN, a Biobank of Central Nervous System Pathologies was created and registered with the Central Commission for Bioethics of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and assigned a registration number in the Central Clinical Hospital BB-001/2022.
